Most prospective clients want to know what happens between the first phone call and the SSM showing up on Monday morning. Here is the actual flow, step by step, with the names of the documents and decisions at each gate.

  • Step 1 — Discovery call (same day). 15-20 minute call with Patrick or the staffing lead. We capture: project scope and dollar value, site address and travel band, project duration in weeks, scheduled hours per day and per week, language requirements (English/Spanish bilingual is common ask), federal vs commercial designation, required certifications, owner-specific clearances (CAC, Secret, DOE site access), PPE issued by your firm vs ours, and start date target.
  • Step 2 — Roster match (within 24 hours). We identify 2-3 candidates from the active 130+ network, narrow by experience match against your scope category, and pull their credential package and references.
  • Step 3 — Candidate proposal. You receive: resume, BCSP credential numbers (verifiable on bcsp.org), OSHA card scans, EM 385 certificate scan if federal, DD-214 if former military, COI samples, prior project references with superintendent contact info, and the proposed all-inclusive hourly rate.
  • Step 4 — Optional candidate interview. Phone or video call between you and the SSM. Most clients do this. It takes 20 minutes and resolves any scope-match concerns before mobilization. Federal clients almost always interview.
  • Step 5 — Selection and paperwork. We run any client-required background check or drug screen, complete the badging process if federal or controlled-site, and execute the contract or work order. Standard contract is short — no minimum hours, no long-term commitment, 30-day notice either way.
  • Step 6 — Day-one mobilization. SSM arrives with PPE, completes your site-specific orientation, meets the superintendent and project manager, signs the SSHO designation if federal, and is on the deck for the morning huddle. Day one is observation and document review; day two is operating mode.

Add-ons billed at cost or stated premium: per diem when the candidate travels more than 50 miles from home base (we use GSA rates), overtime at 1.5x for hours over 8 in a day or over 40 in a week, bilingual premium for English/Spanish (typically +$5-8 per hour), specialty PPE not on standard issue (FR-rated for energized work, half-face APR for silica, supplied-air for IDLH atmospheres).

An equivalent W-2 SSM at $90,000 base plus benefits, workers comp loading, GL insurance, equipment allowance, and burden runs roughly $135,000 fully loaded — about $2,600 per week amortized.
